Lynn Aisbett

Lynee Aisbet

Lynn was the first in her large Geordie family to go to university at 18. After obtaining a law degree and MA in Industrial Relations Lynn tried her hand working in human resources with London Transport. Although she assisted in the introduction of the first flexi-time scheme for the workshops and carried out a study on the impact of platform soles on the safety record of bus drivers, Lynn decided to return to law and took up the post of Trainee Solicitor with Slough Borough Council.

This was a busy and productive time where Lynn developed the skills needed by a lawyer in local government. It was at this point that she decided she wished to work with local people to improve services.

Following her training, Lynn moved to Suffolk County Council where she developed a specialism in debt collection, footpaths, library books and post buses! Whilst acknowledging this was valuable work she felt she had lost touch with local people and moved on to the London Borough of Waltham Forest where she carried a large caseload of criminal and civil work including child care. The happiest task was establishing the Council's first Adoption Panel and dealing with some of the early cases.

Lynn moved back to District work with St Edmondsbury Borough Council in Suffolk where she stayed for the next 12 years. She was promoted at 28 to Borough Solicitor and by 30 was Director of Law and Administration, in both instances one of the youngest appointees to these posts in the country. With the change in roles there was an opportunity to work in newer fields including property management, economic development and town centre development. Lynn established one of the first 50-50 property development companies with City funding, which led to her promotion to the Council's Management Team, the first change to that structure since the 1974 reorganisation.

With a family move to the East Midlands Lynn took up the broader post of Strategic Director at Corby Borough Council and enjoyed the opportunity of a roving commission working on projects as well as settling the strategic direction of key services. One of her proudest achievements is a grade 'C' Housing Strategy written at a time when the service was without senior management direction.

Lynn became Chief Executive at Melton in 2004. She thoroughly enjoys the challenge of bringing a greater customer focus and performance ethic to the Council and jokes that if she tells the Members one more time how really happy she is with her job and her wonderful journey to work they will be asking her to pay them for the privilege!

Away from work Lynn dedicates her time to being a taxi service for her family and touchline supporter in their sports activities. Her interests include good food, preferably cooked by someone else, shopping, travel and shopping.
